Wound care, stomatherapy, clinical nutrition
A nursing team by your side to treat wounds, support people with a digestive stoma bag, and ensure appropriate nutrition. Excellence in Care The mission of our clinical nursing team is based on three pillars — expertise, versatility, and resources — through which we apply a 360-degree vision. At the heart of the care pathway, we act as a link between the hospital, external partners, and the home. In complex situations, we anticipate, advise, and propose concrete solutions. Our goal: to facilitate each step of the care pathway and ensure a safe return home. Image Image Image A team with diverse and highly specialized expertise Composed of nurses specialized in wound care, stomatherapy, and clinical nutrition, our team mobilizes advanced skills to ensure high-quality care. Keeping our knowledge up to date and sharing best practices with healthcare professionals are part of our responsibilities. Beyond clinical practice, our team supports patients throughout their care journey through therapeutic education, practical explanations, and logistical follow-up. A key link in patient care management We are resource persons, a connecting link within a multidisciplinary dynamic, both in the hospital and at home. Our role is to anticipate, prevent, and adjust the care of each patient with wounds, stoma bags, and nutritional tubes. We also strive to facilitate contacts, clarify follow-up, and support communication between the various stakeholders to ensure optimal continuity of care. In summary: we go beyond care — we adapt our expertise to each patient and bring together all healthcare actors around integrated care. Our care areas Within the hospital, we follow our patients during hospitalization and in outpatient consultations.Wound care: establish a care or prevention protocol for complex wounds, help adapt ongoing treatment, in multidisciplinary collaboration (physician, dietitian).Stomatherapy: follow-up of patients with a stoma (wearing a pouch), appliance-related issues, flow management, education, management of difficult drain fittings, discharge equipment.Clinical nutrition: enteral and parenteral nutrition (via a feeding tube or central venous catheter). The multidisciplinary team initiates it in the hospital and then adapts it for home care. Yuki, a four-legged friend, joined the team!
In this festive season we are delighted to share some heartwarming news with you!  Yuki, the young Bichon Maltese, is celebrating his first year of work at the Erasmus Hospital intensive care unit. So we are all celebrating this first anniversary of the arrival of our four-legged friend! Yuki visits the unit every other Sunday and has already greeted more than 70 hospitalised patients. He brought a smile to all their faces and they would love to see him more often.    Yuki provides some welcome warmth and comfort to patients and their families who have to spend time in intensive care. Patients can simply pass some soothing moments with Yuki, stroking him and perhaps entertaining him in a way that requires some basic but important movements.      “ Yuki brought me a lot of happiness when I was in hospital. I would have liked to see him more often. I was fortunate in that I had my family who visited me every day, but I think of those who are not so   lucky […] Yuki must be so important to them,”  A patient This initiative was suggested by Claire, a nurse in the intensive care unit, encouraged by the hospital and approved  by the head of hygiene and head of intensive care. Yuki respects a very strict health protocol before every hospital visit and between greeting every patient.    A great idea and a genuine success that could perhaps be adopted by the other hospitals in the group.

ZELIG Center: A mental health radar for young people
The ZELIG Center, part of the H.U.B., provides specialized care for young people experiencing psychological distress, thanks to a multidisciplinary team of child psychiatrists, psychologists, and healthcare professionals. Located on the Erasme Hospital site in Anderlecht (Brussels), the center is dedicated to early detection and rapid intervention to support adolescents and young adults. In a time when many young people face invisible struggles and growing distress, the ZELIG Center stands as a key player in the prevention and treatment of mental health disorders. Affiliated with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service, led by Professor Véronique Delvenne, and located on the Erasme Hospital site (H.U.B.) in Anderlecht, this outpatient center intervenes at a critical juncture: between the ages of 12 and 21, when nearly 60% of psychiatric disorders emerge. This pivotal period requires focused attention in terms of both prevention and intervention. The name "ZELIG" refers to the eponymous film by Woody Allen, which addresses questions of identity and social conformity. Like this chameleon-like character, the center aims to understand and support young people on their life journey Dr Simone Marchini A Meaningful NameThe name "ZELIG" refers to Woody Allen's film of the same name, which explores themes of identity and social conformity. Like the chameleon-like character in the film, the center strives to understand and support young people on their life journey. Additionally, "ZELIG" is an acronym that reflects the center's philosophy: Zoom, Essence, Links, Individuals, Group—a framework that places young people's well-being and social interactions at the heart of its mission. By intervening early, ZELIG provides young people with the tools to overcome challenges and regain balance at a crucial stage in their development.Early Detection, Rapid InterventionUnder the guidance of Dr. Simone Marchini, a child psychiatrist, ZELIG aims to detect the early signs of psychiatric disorders before they escalate. Too often, diagnoses are delayed, complicating treatment. ZELIG seeks to reverse this trend by addressing the first signs of psychological distress, thereby preventing further mental health deterioration.A Multidisciplinary Team Dedicated to YouthTo fulfill this ambitious mission, ZELIG relies on a multidisciplinary team that includes child psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and educators. A “peer mentor”—a trained patient-partner who supports young people—is also part of the team, providing valuable support grounded in shared experience. This diverse range of expertise enables ZELIG to offer personalized care tailored to each young person's unique needs. By stepping in early, ZELIG equips young people with the tools to overcome their challenges and find balance at a pivotal time in their development Pr Véronique Delvenne everyday allies: guardians of mental healthThe early detection of psychiatric disorders isn’t solely the center’s responsibility; it also relies on the “allies” in a young person’s daily life—parents, teachers, sports coaches, and general practitioners. These key figures are often the first to notice signs of distress and can reach out to ZELIG, enabling swift and effective support.personalized, time-sensitive careThe ZELIG Center provides rapid, well-rounded care focused on three core elements: the individual, the group, and the support network. Individual follow-up allows for care that’s precisely tailored to each young person’s unique needs, while group sessions foster peer connections, helping to break isolation. Involving close contacts—parents or trusted supporters—ensures that care continues seamlessly beyond the center.a complete support model: from detection to recoveryZELIG’s role goes far beyond initial detection. The center ensures that each young person receives comprehensive, ongoing support throughout their journey. When necessary, patients are referred to specialized therapists for extended care, creating a coordinated pathway from diagnosis through to recovery.an essential model for today’s challengesIn a time when young people’s mental health is increasingly vulnerable, the ZELIG Center, with its proactive approach and diverse team, provides a meaningful response to today’s mental health needs.
