Pulmonary fibrosis
Pulmonary fibrosis
What is pulmonary fibrosis?
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common condition in this group, together with sarcoidosis. The annual incidence is estimated at 10 new cases per 100,000 people per year and appears to be increasing. In IPF, the lungs are gradually destroyed and replaced by scar tissue. This leads to irreversible and progressive respiratory failure.
