Vivre avec une cardiopathie congénitale

Congenital heart diseases affect 1 in 100 babies in Belgium. Thanks to medical advances, these children—often operated on several times from a very young age—are now growing up… and becoming adults.

Adults with dreams, plans, and ambitions—to work, start a family, and live life to the fullest. But behind these life journeys, the reality remains demanding: fragile health, repeated hospitalizations, and sometimes difficult social integration.

It is to address these challenges that the non-profit organization Battements vers l’Avenir was created.

Its mission? To support, assist, and connect these young adults at every stage of their lives:

  • Encouraging scientific research
  • Informing and guiding patients in medical and social matters
  • Creating spaces for meeting and sharing
  • Developing innovative tools (adapted medical and sports applications)
  • Providing concrete support in dealing with challenges related to the disease

On April 23, the association will be present at Erasme Hospital to engage with visitors about congenital heart diseases and its actions for patients. And if you feel like it, you can support the association by purchasing a small goodie.

  • Where? Erasme Hospital, Route de Lennik 808, 1070 Anderlecht – Main hall (ground floor)
  • When? Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • This event is open to everyone and free of charge.
